An exercise in contrast

Window, originally uploaded by c2mfj.

Tall vs Short, Fat vs Skinny, or Light vs Dark. All examples in one way or another of contrast. Using a dilapidated old house I came up with this photo for an assignment over at digital-photography-school.com

Rust

Here's a roll of tomato fence I found and thought would make an interesting photo. I'm not a big fan of the light in the bottom right, but this was taken with my point 'n shoot Nikon.

Slow Sync Flash

Here's an example of using a slow sync flash. Just a little trick where you can use a slow shutter speed to show blur of motion and then the flash pops at the end of the exposure (rather than the beginning) to freeze everything nice and crisp-like.

Lake Wedowee, AL

This weekend I stayed with some friends at their new lake house in Alabama. It was an excellent weekend of relaxation. I took this one morning before any activity got going on the lake. I love it when the water is like glass.

Sam

This shot did not even come close to what I had imagined before I took it. The gravel and white siding completely wash out the the bottom half of the photo and even the dog is out of focus. I guess I just wanted a permanent record of how my inexperience stands in the way of a good idea. It just makes me want to become better. Besides, I didn't even ask the dog if I could take his photo. But, there's just something about a dog in a doorway...

Fleet Pond

I also took this during my last trip to England. My girlfriend and I went down to a local pond that had a nature trail and had a good wander. I really like when you can get all the tiny twigs and sticks coming off the branches that make a nice web against a bright sky.
